Alongside the new iPhone, Apple Watch, and iPad announced at Apple’s “California Streaming” keynote event, Apple announced a much needed refresh of the iPad mini, the iPad mini 6.
The new iPad mini 6 features a complete redesign and brings it up to speed in Apple’s current lineup of products. The iPad mini 6 now closely resembles the iPad Air 4 with it’s flat edge, all screen design. The iPad mini 6 now comes in 4 new colors including Purple, Pink, Starlight, and Space Grey. Other design changes include TouchID being moved to the power button, and the introduction of USB-C for the first time in the iPad mini lineup. In terms of the display, the iPad mini 6 now has a 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display with True Tone, P3 color gamut, and 500 nits of brightness. The new iPad mini also now supports the 2nd generation Apple Pencil.
The iPad mini 6 sees a substantial increase in performance with the A15 Bionic with Neural Engine, the same processor that is used in the iPhone 13 Pro that features a 6-core CPU, and 5-core GPU. This allows for 40% faster CPU performance, 80% faster GPU performance, and 2x faster machine learning. 5G also comes to the iPad mini for peak download speeds of up to 3.5Gbps.
Lastly, the new iPad mini comes with a plethora of camera improvements. The main camera on the back has been upgraded to a 12MP camera with a f/1.8 aperture with a new Image Signal Processor (ISP), Quad LED True Tone flash, and 4K video recording in up to 60fps. The UltraWide selfie camera on the iPad mini has also been upgraded to 12MP and now supports Center Stage recording.
The 6th generation iPad mini starts at $499 and is available in 64GB and 256GB storage options. Watch our unboxing video below for a first look at the new iPad Mini.
