Sony’s Flagship Xperia 1 III

Sony has just announced the latest generation of their flagship smartphone, the Sony Xperia 1 III. The Xperia 1 III puts a heavy emphasis on photography and markets itself towards creatives, but it comes at a hefty price tag.

In terms of specs, it checks all the boxes of a flagship Android smartphone in 2021. The Xperia 1 III is powered by a Snapdragon 888 chip, Adreno 660 GPU, and comes with 12GB of RAM. The display is a 6.5 inch 4K OLED panel that is capable of producing over a billion colors and has a refresh rate of 120hz. The Xperia 1 III also is IP68 water resistant, supports 5G, and houses a 4500mAh battery.

However, the main focus of the phone is the triple camera setup that Sony claims is inspired by their Alpha line of mirrorless cameras. The Xperia 1 III features a main 24mm lens, an ultrawide 16mm lens, and a variable telephoto lens that can switch between 70mm and 105mm focal lengths and has up to 4.4x optical zoom, a first for smartphones. All three cameras are also 12-megapixel shooters with fast autofocus, optical image stabilization, and Zeiss optics.

The Sony Xperia 1 III is available now for pre-order from Sony for a hefty price of $1,299, with orders shipping on August 19th. Sony also has an ongoing offer where they will include a pair of WF-1000MX3 earbuds with the phone free of charge.
