Sonos Roam – The New Portable Home Speaker

Sonos is one of the most popular speakers for home use, and they will be announcing a new product that will expand their line-up on March 9th. Pre-orders should be available shortly after and the shipment date is reportedly going to be on April 20th.

The Sonos Roam is going to be more compact than most of their other speakers, and once again it will be available in both black, and white. It will weigh in at only one pound, and the dimensions are predicted to be 6.5 x 2.5 x 2.5 inches. It can run wirelessly for up to 10 hours on a full charge, and you can purchase a wireless charging dock as well which will cost an additional $49 since it will only come with a USB charging cable.

Sonos has done incredible with the sales of their Sonos One, Move, PlayBar, Beam, and more. Although, the Roam seems like it will offer something new to the product line. Some of the previous products were marketed to be portable, but the size didn’t allow it to compactly fit in a backpack, and the price was quite high to be a speaker you’d bring anywhere. It fills a void in their line-up as the “portable” Sonos Move speaker was over six pounds. The Roam will be just $169, and considerably smaller than the Move, making it a much more feasible option to bring to the beach or wherever you need music. Especially since it is fully waterproof.

This product will be in the portable Bluetooth speaker market with competitors such as Ultimate Ears (UE), JBL, and Bose. The sound should be comparable or better and you are also buying into an ecosystem. Sonos has an incredible speaker network that can fill an entire house if you buy a few of their products and pair them. The Roam will be integrated into this network and be able to connect at home and also be taken wherever else, giving it great versatility.

Hopefully, the Sonos has lots of stock of the Roam ready to be shipped because this should be a great selling speaker. The multi-use speaker is going to be affordable, with a price of $169, and will be a great entry-point to get consumers into the Sonos ecosystem.
