It isn’t often that Vogue strays from their traditional covers. Each monthly edition is decorated with its bold title (VOGUE) along with unique design work usually. This time, the magazine dawns a blank white cover. It’s a tribute to those who have lost their lives to the pandemic as well as put themselves at risk. The editor-in-chief, Emanuele Farneti made a statement regarding the changes the Magazine made for this month’s edition. Farneti says “to speak of anything else – while people are dying, doctors and nurses are risking their lives and the world is changing forever – is not the DNA of Vogue Italia.”
Vogue Italia has distanced themselves from other projects due to COVID-19 and felt they had to show their respect by acknowledging the pandemic and those affected rather than trying to continue to do business as usual. According to the magazine’s Instagram post, they say that the white canvas signifies respect, rebirth, and replicates the colours worn by those who risk their lives to save others.
While Italy was one of the most affected countries it is important for brands to step up and display unity during this tough time. The special edition is going to be published on April 10th.
